Even the greatest basketball player of all time isn’t above the rules — especially at one of Miami’s most exclusive country clubs.

Jordan Not Ready For Tee Time
Michael Jordan found himself banned from La Gorce Country Club after showing up on the golf course wearing cargo shorts — a clear violation of the club’s strict long pants policy. According to the Daily Mail, Jordan was mid-game, playing his 11th of 18 holes, when he was asked to leave, cementing his place on the club’s banned list since Nov. 28, 2012.
It’s a surprising fate for the NBA legend and billionaire, but La Gorce doesn’t bend its rules for anyone — even for His Airness.
Noticing the former Chicago Bulls legend was wearing shorts very late in his golf on the 12th hole, as The Los Angeles Times reported, club personnel had informed him that he violated the dress code.
When asked to wear the appropriate pair of pants, Jordan refused to pause his game; his competitiveness did not allow him to ruin the game, according to the Daily Mail.
As a result of his refusal to comply, La Gorce Country Club, a private club that has an extensive waitlist and an entry fee between $700,000 and $1 million, banned Jordan shortly after.
Per the LA Times, a representative of Jordan published a statement on the ban.
“Michael Jordan did wear cargo pants. He had been there many times before and had worn cargo pants previously, and had never been made aware that he was violating any dress code. This time, he was made aware of the violation on the 12th hole, and at that point he did refuse to interrupt his game, and return to the clubhouse and change. We were not aware that he is not allowed to return to La Gorce. I guess it’s their loss — as MJ is a great golfer, and a great guest.”
La Gorce Country Club is one of many Floridian private and exclusive country clubs, but its reputation is considered one of a kind — even Grammy-winning and Florida’s own DJ Khaled is on the waitlist, according to The New York Post.
