TOWNSEND — This year, Massachusetts and America will be commemorating 250 years since the battles of Lexington and Concord, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and the Siege of Boston.
To celebrate this milestone, the Townsend Minutemen Company will re-create the March to Concord by marching from the Townsend Common to the Reed Homestead along the Squannacook Rail Trail.
This event will take place on Saturday, April 19, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Townsend Common.
In preparation for the March to Concord, the Townsend Historical Society and the Townsend Public Library, in conjunction with the Townsend Minuteman Company, will host two programs about Townsend during the Revolution.
“There will also be information for those who might be interested in making their own colonial outfit for the March and other events,” said John Barrett, captain of the Townsend Minuteman Company. “Men and women, students and teachers, and parents are all welcome to attend.”
The programs will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at The Kimball House, located at 29 Highland St. and at noon Saturday, March 15, at the Townsend Meeting Hall, located at 12 Dudley Road.
