Something new appears to be brewing in the land of Krynn involving actor and Dungeons & Dragons influencer Joe Manganiello, as well as Dragonlance authors Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis. Recent photos shared on social media, showed the three standing together at Wizards of the Coast’s office in Renton, Washington, along with recently appointed head of the D&D franchise Dan Ayoub.
The cryptic posts have lead to a wide range of speculation among the Dungeons & Dragons fan community, with everything from a new novel or sourcebook to video game or TV series. Below, we take a look at everything we know so far about this potential return to Krynn.
What new Dragonlance project are Manganiello, Weis & Hickman working on?
So far no major details have been revealed about what the three creators are working on. At the top of the list, however, is the possible revival of a Dragonlance TV show, which Manganiello had written and shopped around to various production companies in 2023. Despite positive feedback the project ended up stalled and by early 2024 was essentially placed in what Hollywood refers to as “development hell.”

The recent July 2025 appointment of Dan Ayoub, however, may change things, as Ayoub is spearheading a new D&D franchise model that’s meant to includes film and television under a single brand umbrella.
Another possibility is a new sourcebook for D&D as the last official Dragonlance supplement was the Shadow of the Dragon Queen campaign book released in December 2022. With the release of the new D&D 2024 core books, the timing is ideal for more adventures in Krynn.
Still a third possibility is a new Dragonlance video game. Wizards of the Coast has invested heavily in new video game properties, including recently opening a new studio in Montreal and announcing a number of new titles, including new games from Giant Skull and Hasbro’s internal team. As a fan-favorite campaign setting, Dragonlance may indeed tie-in to one of these games.
Notably, Manganiello has had a close relationship with Weis and Hickman over the years, looping them in on his TV project and writing the forward to the 40th Anniversary Dragonlance Chronicles hardcover.
What new confirmed Dragonlance products are in the works?
Over the past few years, new Dragonlance content has been few and far between. Between 2022 and 2024, authors Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis did release a new trilogy entitled Dragonlance Destinies, which was generally well received by fans. Since that time, however, we’ve seen very few new released. New products coming up include:

Final Thoughts
In recent years there’s actually been a fair bit of bad blood between Dragonlance authors Tracky Hickman and Margaret Weis and Wizards of the Coast. This stems from a 2020 lawsuit after the two authors where contracted to write a new trilogy which WotC later cancelled (the suit was later dropped by Hickman and Weis).
Similarly, the relationship between Manganiello and WotC has seemed contentious at times, and following the cancellation of his Dragonlance TV project in February 2024 the actor noted that “Dragonlance is not a property WotC are interested in developing further currently.”
With this new mystery project on the horizon it appears that bad blood is now in the past. What the final product will be, however, remains to be seen. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this story in the days ahead and will update this page with new information as it’s made available.
