The idea of a Nirvana reunion has always been more of a dream than a reality. But after their surprise performance at FireAid, fans are asking the impossible question once again—could Nirvana actually tour in 2025 with a new singer? A new video on Nirvana hiring a big name singer for a reunion tour has been uploaded.
The grunge legends shocked the crowd at FireAid, reuniting for the first time in years. Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear ripped through four Nirvana classics with four different vocalists taking turns at the mic. St. Vincent, Kim Gordon and Joan Jett, stepped up to sing. And, in a twist that nobody saw coming, the final song featured Dave Grohl’s daughter, Violet Grohl. The performance was packed with emotion—especially during All Apologies, where Dave and Violet sang the famous refrain together. It was the only time Grohl approached the mic all night.
This was also Dave Grohl’s first major performance since publicly acknowledging that he fathered a child outside of his marriage. While he stayed away from the mic for most of the set, the moment he joined his daughter on All Apologies was powerful. Some even speculate that if Nirvana were to tour, putting Violet Grohl in the spotlight could be a way to turn a personal controversy into a story of redemption.
If Nirvana really wanted to put together a tour, they wouldn’t be limited to just these four vocalists. There are other names that could make sense. Eddie Vedder, The Pearl Jam frontman was part of the grunge movement alongside Nirvana, and his voice has a similar grit. On the other hand, Linkin Park’s Emily Armstrong could also be a vocalist. Armstrong’s career has skyrocketed since her collaborations with Linkin Park, and her style is perfect for Nirvana’s catalog.
Nirvana has reunited before—most notably at the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and again at Cal Jam in 2018. The idea of a full-fledged tour is complicated. While the FireAid performance was well-received, Nirvana’s surviving members have always been hesitant to take things further. Cobain’s absence is too big to ignore, and there’s always been a sense that Nirvana ended with him.
