DETROIT — A popular cocktail bar in Detroit’s Midtown neighborhood is closing down after eight years.
Castalia, located within an old Victorian home on Second Avenue, will close down for good on New Year’s Eve, according to a social media post.
“We will be operating normally until the end of the year, at which point a new chapter will begin with a change in ownership and direction,” the post read.
Staff said in the post the decision to close the cocktail bar is not due to business reasons.
“To be clear, we’re not out of money, we’re not out of ideas, we don’t have issues with our landlord, and our neighborhood is great. Rather, after a marvelous run of eight years, we are choosing to go out on top,” they said in the post.
Staff said its teams are “crafting better drinks than ever before,” and have re received “national and international press and awards.” However, they added “the same structures we built to climb higher now constrain us.”
Castalia’s cocktails are focused on the harmony of flavor and fragrance, as each drink is paired with a scent Sfumato, according to its website.
The bar has put out a final cocktail menu called the “Afterlife Menu,” which will feature more than a dozen drinks, including alcohol-free options.
“We want to express nothing but profound gratitude to everyone who has graced Castalia with their presence, and invite everyone to come and bid farewell,” staff said in the post.
