Red Sox fan from Ipswich, Massachusetts, goes viral after catching foul ball with fried dough
Fenway Park is no stranger to unusual fan interactions, with one Red Sox fan from Ipswich using his fried dough to catch a foul ball during Thursday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.”I sort of, like, raised my shoulder, and the fried dough was here — and I kind of got it, and it actually got trapped — the baseball got trapped right in the fried dough,” Red Sox fan Max Kivekas said.The fried dough replaced a mitt, with Kivekas making quite the catch.”The ball went right in it, and I was like, ‘there’s a souvenir,'” Kivekas said.He got up after, and everyone cheered. One guy even bought him a beer.”All of the seams had, like, powdered sugar all over it, so I kind of had to shake it off,” Kivekas said. “I was keeping that fried dough on me, I definitely wanted it after that.”The viral moment quickly spread online, whether Kivekas liked it or not.Thursday night’s game was his third game in a row, and he said he called out sick from work earlier in the day.”Everyone was like, ‘Was that really you?’ I was like, ‘That was me,'” Kivekas said. “They were like, ‘I thought you were sick?’ I was like, ‘Well…'”Kivekas said his boss gave him a hard time on Friday until he saw the video for himself.”I feel like if I didn’t have the fried dough in my hand, it could be a whole different story,” Kivekas said. “It was awesome, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
