Saturday Night Live is coming under criticism over a shocking moment in which the studio audience cheered wildly at the mention of accused killer Luigi Mangione.
It happened during Weekend Update as SNL’s Colin Jost was teeing up a joke about Mangione — who has been charged in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
“Luigi Mangione dropped—” Jost said, unable to get the line off before being interrupted by the cheering crowd.
Jost went on to take a swipe at the crowd for their reaction.
“Yeah, definitely, woo!” Jost said, sarcastically. “You’re wooing for justice, right?”
Still, despite Jost’s response and visible discomfort with the cheering, SNL is drawing heat. Numerous prominent Right-wing social media accounts quickly shared the clip:
Piers Morgan blasted the show — saying, “So disgusting… and Colin Jost just smirks away as if it’s all one big giggle. Shameful moment for SNL.”
