As the devastating wildfires in California continue to rage on, the sheer magnitude of the disaster is slowly but surely being revealed. Not only have many businesses and celebrity homes burned to the ground, but several iconic filming locations have also been destroyed in the process. Case in point: The Roy family’s iconic mega-mansion in California has been decimated.
We saw glimpses of the Pacific Palisades property during the fourth season of Succession, but this residence is so grand it totally deserved its own plot line. Clocking in at a whopping 20,000 square feet, this palatial pad boasted 18 bathrooms and six bedrooms, including one primary suite that could only be accessed through retinal scanner. Let that sink in for a second, will you?
While the size of this home is enough to wow, this residence has a lot more to offer than square footage. Other highlights include a 20-person movie theater, outdoor cinema, infinity pool, zen spa, and a bullet-proof safe room. Even the most “basic” features are decked out to the nines: Per an old listing by Williams & Williams Estate Group, the chef’s kitchen was designed by Nobu.
The Roy’s fictional home is grand on virtually every level, so it came at a steep price point. Most recently, the property was on the market for a jaw-dropping $83 million. In fact, some real estate-obsessed Redditors question if the home’s sky-high price point made it its Achilles heel. “This house seemed impossible to sell, it was obscenely expensive as well as unique, sitting on the market for like 10 years,” one person wrote. “The developers must be thrilled.” “This guy did a video critiquing the home five months ago saying it was basically uninsurable based on its location,” another noted.
Price controversy aside, it is heart-wrenching to see a home that was built with so much thought and care be reduced to ashes. Plus, the Roy residence was so close to surviving the disaster. Eagle-eyed Redditors spotted the $83 million dollar mansion next to Tom Hanks’s alleged abode, which somehow has remained intact.
Sadly, the Roy residence isn’t the only iconic property that has been burnt down. To date, more than 10,000 homes, buildings, and businesses have fallen victim to the wildfires, so it is only a matter of time until we hear about more losses. We’ll keep you posted about everything we know about this California catastrophe, including how you can support the Los Angeles community.
