The latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which consistently ranks the world’s 500 richest people across industries, includes six leaders from U.S. healthcare.
The wealthiest person in U.S. healthcare, as of Feb. 9, is Thomas Frist Jr., MD, co-founder of HCA Healthcare.

Dr. Frist co-founded HCA Healthcare, a for-profit hospital operator based in Nashville, Tenn., with his father in the 1960s. He also founded the United Way’s Alexis de Tocqueville Society.
2. Carl Cook

Mr. Cook is owner and CEO of Cook Group, a Bloomington, Ind.-based medical device manufacturer co-founded by his parents in 1963. Mr. Cook became CEO in 2011.
3. Bob Duggan

Mr. Duggan is an investor in the healthcare industry. He is the largest shareholder in Summit Therapeutics, a Miami-based biopharmaceutical oncology company.
4. Patrick Soon-Shiong, MD

Overall index ranking: 249
Dr. Soon-Shiong invented the cancer drug Abraxane. He is the founder of NantWorks, a network of healthcare, biotech and artificial intelligence startups, and owner of the Los Angeles Times.
5. Ronda Stryker

Ms. Stryker is the director of and the largest individual shareholder in Stryker Corp., a medical equipment company founded by her grandfather, Homer Stryker, MD. Ms. Stryker’s siblings have stakes in the company as well.
