President-elect Donald Trump surprised his pre-inauguration MAGA rally crowd by rolling out The Village People for a live performance of “Y.M.C.A.” – featuring “the Trump dance.”
After Trump completed the nearly three-hour rally at the Capital One Arena in Washington DC, all six members of the ban joined the president-elect on stage ahead of his swearing-in ceremony. Trump started doing his signature dance as the band sung the song to the joyous crowd.
Back in 2020, Trump started using the songs “Macho Man” and “Y.M.C.A.” at political rallies while adding his own special jig to the musical performances.
The band’s performance marks a new relationship with the president-elect. Karen Willis, manager and wife of band founder Victor Willis, sent a cease-and-desist letter to Trump back in 2023. At the time, she threatened legal action against Trump for unauthorized performances at Mar-a-Lago after a Village People lookalike band performed at the club.
Since that time, Willis gave his blessing to the anthem being played at Trump rallies, saying that it has been “bringing so much joy to the American people.”
