Are you ready for whatever awaits us in the Daredevil: Born Again season finale? Through all the turmoil, deaths, torture and battles between light and dark, it’s still not a sure thing who will live or die by the end of this season. Don’t count on things being easygoing for Daredevil/Matt, Punisher or anyone threatening Kingpin’s tyranny — directly or indirectly.
The Marvel series reintroduced Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and the original show’s versions of Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). Executive producer Sana Amanat and executive producer/showrunner Dario Scardapane shared that the new series has a connective thread to the first iteration but is also its own story.
Returning viewers to New York City, Daredevil: Born Again kicked off with a tragic event that affected Murdock’s inner circle and Fisk living out the political ambitions he put into motion at the end of Echo. As crime and street justice has increased, friction between Kingpin and Daredevil reignited and Muse emerged as a new villain.
According to production notes, both Fisk and Matt have inner conflict. “We had to do parallel paths. Both tried so hard to be something else: ‘I’m Matt Murdock. I’m just a lawyer. I’m not Daredevil anymore.’ ‘I’m Wilson Fisk, mayor of New York City. I’m doing good things for people,'” Scardapane said. “We wanted to bring that tension to a place where they literally can’t sustain it and things start to unravel and explode.”
