William Shatner Spoke With Gayle King On CBS Mornings
Shatner might not have originally been a space traveler, but he played one on television. His best-known role was playing James T. Kirk throughout the Star Trek franchise. First playing the character in the mid-1960s, he played the character well until the 1990s, appearing in the feature film, Star Trek Generations.
However, life eventually imitated art when he got the chance to in 2021 when the actor flew into space aboard the Blue Origin NS-18 sub-orbital capsule. At the time, he was the oldest person to fly in space at the age of 90.
As previously reported, a new Blue Origin space trip has been planned with an all-female flight. This will include journalist Gayle King and pop singer Katy Perry, among others, on board. They will also be joined by Amanda Nguyen, Lauren Sanchez, Aisha Bowe, and Kerianne Flynn.
King recently got some advice from Shatner himself during an interview on CBS Mornings. At the start of their chat, Shatner mentioned King caught him on his way to practice for his annual charity horse show, which has become a birthday tradition for the actor over the years.
Shatner Wanted To Impart One Last Piece Of Important Advice Before Their Talk Was Done
However, Shatner soon segued into talk of space travel. As he shared, “While I’m stopped, I thought I’d talk to you about going up into space and how chancy and how wonderful and how exciting it is.” King noted, “That’s what I wanted to talk to you about.”
Noting King’s red outfit, Shatner noted, “I don’t want you to wear that dress cause it’s the color of blood. Okay. We don’t want any blood. Gayle. No, we don’t. We don’t want any blood.” King noted, “You’re right about that. We don’t want any blood.”

Shatner noted, “You’re on an adventure. You’ve got to embrace it. ” He even encouraged her to come up with a mantra as she goes on her trip, jokingly suggesting “Priceline.” This was a nod to him appearing as the Priceline pitchman in a series of advertisements.
The actor also reassured King. As he noted, at one point, “You’re going to feel like I’m going to die. But you’re not going to die. You’re on an adventure.” At this point, Shatner was asked not to scare King.
Shatner was also asked about what it was like floating in space. He shared, “There are no words in the English language to explain what weightlessness is like.”
“It is the strangest feeling. Nothing is like it, not swimming in a pool where they have the astronauts. Nothing is like it.”
However, Shatner had one important thing he also wanted to share as a final note. As he noted, “The time you leave your bed and get to the ship and deal with the press and go up in the air and then come back down and deal with the press. [It’s] a long time. And there are no bathroom facilities. So, they’re going to give you diapers.”
