Steve Belichick quickly made sure his press conferences weren’t as cut and dry as his father’s were while he was the head coach of the New England Patriots.
But he made it a point to be blunt like his dad, coupled with a bit of humor.
Belichick, who is now the defensive coordinator of the University of Washington Huskies, was asked during a press conference Wednesday what some differences were between him and Bill Belichick.
“I got a job and he doesn’t,” the 37-year-old Belichick told reporters in attendance.

Steve coached on New England’s staff alongside his dad from 2012-23 in different roles. He was the defensive playcaller from 2020 until his time came to an end in 2023.
The Patriots and the elder Belichick agreed to part ways earlier this offseason after a historic run in New England that included six Super Bowls. But after two straight losing seasons and in important draft coming up, the sides agreed it would be best to end the marriage.
Once Bill left the Patriots, Steve sought new opportunities. It wasn’t long before he landed at Washington. He’ll now have the chance to not be in his father’s shadow and prove he’s a capable defensive-minded coach.
As for Bill, he was shut out of the 2024 coaching cycle, though it’s possible he returns to the sidelines in 2025. Until then, there’s been rumors that the 71-year-old could have some sort of role in TV.
